Hame Castle is supposed to be built in the end of the 13th century, and is surrounded by a moat and a lake. As opposed to the other castles in Finland, the appearance of Hame castle is dominated by red brick. The building was severely damaged by fire in 1659. Due to the changes in the middle of the 18th century, the castle lost two of its towers. It served as a prison from 1837 to 1972, and the prison was designed by a famous architect, Carl Engel. Inside of the castle has been partially remodeled into contemporary style nowadays. There are artillery museum, prison museum, and historical museum by the castle.
